OFCCP Compliance
The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), a branch of the U.S. Department of Labor, requires that institutions contracted with the federal government actively reach out to diverse applicants. OFCCP mandates that federal contractors must consider hiring qualified applicants regardless of “race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin” (§ 60-1.4). As universities often administer government research grants, OFCCP regulations cover many higher education institutions.
Should your institution be audited by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, HERC can help you demonstrate good faith affirmative action efforts. HERC supports OFCCP compliance by:
- Hosting a jobs board utilized by diverse job seekers. Of our registered job seekers, 35% are people of color or multiracial; 69% are women, gender diverse, and non-binary people; 1% are transgender; 9% are professionals with disabilities, 6% are veterans, and 13% are part of a dual career couple. - Deepening partnerships which represent diverse constituencies. Our partners share our vision for a more inclusive and equitable academia. We exchange in-kind services with a wide range of professional associations and nonprofit organizations. Please see the Partnership Directory for a full list of HERC partners.
- Reaching out to diverse job seekers in person through in-person outreach at academic conferences across the country. HERC staff frequently attends the national gatherings of diverse professionals—promoting your institution and open positions. In recent years, we’ve represented you at National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education (NCORE); the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU); the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS); the Black Doctoral Network Annual Conference; and the Compact for Faculty Diversity Institute on Teaching and Mentoring.
- Advertising in publications that reach diverse audiences. We routinely advertise in leading edge publications that serve diverse professionals in higher education.
- Providing free cross-posting to reach even broader audiences. Jobs posted to HERC's jobs board are automatically cross-posted to Juju, USMilitaryPipeline.com, Jobmanji, Google for Jobs, DirectEmployers* (*only available for PeopleAdmin 7 integrated clients Cross-Posting to DirectEmployers Sites (non DE Member sites only)). The free job aggregators have ultimate control over what jobs they display, and on these additional sites, please note that HERC does not have control over duplicate postings, job ranking, or location.
