As recruiters and HR professionals in higher education, we are in a unique position to assist Veterans in making the transition from the military to the civilian workforce. Working in higher education allows Veterans to utilize the skills they developed while serving in the military while offering great benefits to employers such as built-in leadership skills, integrity, teamwork, respect and performance under pressure to name just a few. However, translating military experience to higher education may not come easily for both Veterans and recruiters. This webinar will focus on building an understanding of the transferable skill sets that Veterans bring and how to best recruit, analyze work history/experience, interview and match Veterans to jobs in higher education.

Andrew (Andy) Ryan
CIO and Director of ITS at Centre College
Andy served for 30 years in the United States Air Force with 25 of those years as an Air Force Officer leading large and enterprise-level cyber, IT and support organizations. His accomplishments include being a 3-time squadron commander, serving in 5 overseas assignments with extensive experience in cyber operations and command and control networks. Andy has a Master of Science in Management Information Systems, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and an NCEA Diploma in Computer Engineering.
Adam Potter
Director for the Central Midwest Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) and Senior HR Specialist, University of Iowa
Adam is a retired Army veteran with over 20 years of service. His career began as an Infantry soldier with the 82nd Airborne Division and later he served in various assignments Recruitment Specialist, Recruiting Station Manager, and Senior Army Career Liaison with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. He studied Criminal Justice through Grantham University and is a graduate of the Army’s Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course along with numerous other military professional development courses
