Serving Those Who Served: Best Practices for Recruiting and Retaining Veterans in the Higher Ed Workforce

As higher education professionals we have the inherent responsibility to assist veterans in making the transition from the military to the civilian workforce. Working in higher education allows veterans to utilize the skills they developed in the military while offering great benefits to employers such as built-in leadership skills, integrity, teamwork, respect and performance under pressure to name just a few. However, translating military experience to higher education may not come easily for both veterans and recruiters. In the Midwest Regional Fall 2023 Virtual Meeting, we will focus on understanding of veterans' transferrable skillsets and building relationships with local military partners to best recruit, retain, and advance veterans in the higher education workforce.
