Let’s Talk Higher Ed Careers: A New Resource for Higher Education Employers

By Marcia Silva posted 15 days ago

HERC Jobs has launched a new video podcast, Let’s Talk Higher Ed Careers, designed to spotlight real career paths in higher education and share practical insights into today’s evolving talent market.

Created with both job seekers and employers in mind, the podcast features conversations with higher education professionals, career coaches, and HR leaders. Episodes explore the wide range of campus roles, offer perspectives on career growth and mobility, and provide guidance on navigating a competitive hiring landscape. The first episode is an "Ask a Recruiter" session featuring Sonya Ponder, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Talent Acquisition Manager at Princeton University.

The launch comes at an important time for the higher education workforce. Ongoing policy and budget uncertainty has slowed hiring across many sectors, including higher education, increased competition for available roles, and contributed to a challenging job search landscape.

According to the 2025 HERC Higher Education Workforce Survey, more than half of respondents are exploring opportunities across multiple industries, underscoring the need to clearly communicate what makes careers in higher education distinctive and compelling.

For employers, Let’s Talk Higher Ed Careers offers an additional way to reinforce the value of higher education careers, showcase authentic career stories, and better align institutional messaging with what today’s candidates seek: purpose-driven work, growth opportunities, and transparency.

New episodes are released bi-weekly on the HERC Jobs YouTube Channel. We invite higher education employers to tune in, share episodes with their networks, and consider how these conversations can support your recruitment and employer branding efforts.
