PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

“Becoming Aware of Your Own Culture”

In this interactive workshop, faculty and staff from UMW HERC colleges and universities will be challenged to uncover aspects of their own culture and how these shape their perceptions of the world. Attendees will also learn to identify relevant cultural differences between themselves and others, making it easier for them to take actionable steps to create bridges between cultures throughout their institutions and communities. At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to understand the cultural factors that influence their worldview, appreciate how their own cultural identity shapes their interactions with international students, staff, and faculty, and create bridges between two differing worldviews

Presenter: Thorunn Bjarnadottir, Program Director Intercultural Education International Student and Scholar Services, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
