The first step in successfully recruiting and retaining Muslim employees is not advertising a position. The first step is creating a welcoming and accommodating work environment built upon a knowledge of Muslim culture and religious practices. In this webinar, Mr. Jaylani Hussein, Executive Director, Council on American-Islamic Relations--Minnesota, will address culturally appropriate communication and the elimination of bias in all phases of the search process. He will offer advice on effective employment practices ranging from posting jobs to interviewing candidates to offering non-discriminatory benefits that will lead to the retention of Muslim faculty and staff.

About the Presenter: Mr. Jaylani Hussein is the executive director of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN). He is intimately familiar with the higher education employment environment having served on a presidential search committee and worked as the Community Liaison Officer at Metropolitan State University. Mr. Hussein holds degrees in Community Development and City Planning from St. Cloud State University and Political Science from North Dakota State University.
