The academy is in the midst of deep change. Faculty leaders are being asked to navigate competing demands that include political pressures, shifting institutional priorities, tightening budgets, and a growing skepticism about the value of the academy itself. These tensions don’t have easy solutions, and they can’t be managed with technical expertise alone.
They require a different kind of leadership.
This two-part workshop introduces adaptive leadership as a practical approach for leading through complexity, conflict, and change. At its core, adaptive leadership is deeply human work. It asks leaders to engage competing values, make difficult trade-offs, and stay grounded and effective in emotionally charged environments. The differentiator is not just strategy - it’s emotional intelligence.
This webinar and workshop explores adaptive leadership through the lens of faculty leadership, equipping you with a practical emotional intelligence framework you can apply to your own leadership challenges and growth.
*Please note that participants must register for both days individually.
In Session One, you will:
- · Explore what effective leadership requires in today’s rapidly changing academic environment
- · Build deeper awareness of the core values that ground your leadership
- · Learn how to leverage your personal values amid competing institutional priorities and tensions
- · Surface the mindsets and behaviors that may be limiting your effectiveness in your specific role and university context
- · Develop practical strategies to shift those mindsets and behaviors in moments that matter
In Session Two, you will:
- Apply an adaptive leadership lens to a current leadership challenge you are facing
- Analyze your stakeholders—both within that challenge and across your broader organizational context
- Identify clear adaptive objectives to guide your approach
- Develop and practice strategies for engaging stakeholders effectively in moments of tension and conflict
To get the most out of this workshop, please complete Noble Story Group’s emotional intelligence mindset self-assessment in advance (8–10 minutes). Once completed, you will receive your results and coaching tool via email.
We encourage you to review your report carefully and note which coaching questions resonate most. You will return to these reflections and build on them throughout the workshop.
