We are excited to announce that Morgan State University will now serve as the lead partner institution for the Mid-Atlantic Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC). With 6 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the HERC member network, Morgan is the first to take on this leadership role.  Launched in 2008, Mid-Atlantic HERC comprises 19 institutions, including John Hopkins University, Frederick Community College, and Montgomery College.

“Becoming the lead partner institution for Mid-Atlantic HERC is an exciting chapter for Morgan’s partnership with HERC,” said Miriam Stokes, Director of Talent and Total Rewards, Morgan State University. “We’re proud to be the first HBCU as a lead partner institution and to contribute our perspective. As an HBCU, Morgan values inclusive, supportive environments for all backgrounds. We aim to use our partnership with HERC to strengthen recruitment, share insights, and promote equitable, inclusive practices across higher education in our region.”

Morgan’s leadership role with Mid-Atlantic HERC reinforces its dedication to advancing inclusive excellence in higher education. As the primary convener of a dynamic network of institutions committed to building inclusive workplaces, Morgan will help connect the region’s talented workforce with rewarding careers in academia.

“Mid-Atlantic HERC strengthens higher education across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., by connecting talented professionals with meaningful career opportunities and helping institutions foster welcoming, supportive, and inclusive workplaces,” said Nathan Bullock, Regional Director, Mid-Atlantic HERC.

Other regional lead partner institutions include Centre College, Columbia University, East Carolina University, Harper College, Harvard University, Michigan State University, Minnesota State, Princeton University, San Diego State University, and University of Houston.

“Morgan State University’s leadership as the first HBCU to serve as a HERC regional lead marks a milestone for our organization and the higher education community,” said Nikki Duncan, Governance Board Chair of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium. “Morgan’s participation adds a distinctive regional voice, creating opportunities to learn, improve talent recruitment and retention, and adapt to the changing higher education workforce. We look forward to seeing Morgan’s impact in the Mid-Atlantic.”
